NEW VENUE! Everyone is invited to enjoy the Honesdale Rotary’s annual International Flavors, a gourmet feast of local and international dishes prepared by area restaurants and Rotarians. This year, the event takes place at Honesdale High School on Saturday, November 3rd, from 5:30pm – 7:30pm. The Local Boys will provide entertainment. “Being a Rotary international exchange student in Honesdale was the best experience I ever had,” said Lea Couturier, an exchange student from France who spent the 2011-2012 school year at Honesdale High School. “I learned so much about American culture and I made so many new friends.”

"I love it here!” said Sebastian Botero, a Columbian native currently enjoying his senior year of high school at Honesdale. “I come from a big city, 2 million inhabitants, and this is so nice— everyone has big yards in front and in back. And the people are so friendly. In the hallways at school, even people I do not know say Hi Sebastian!"

Honesdale Rotary has also helped send Honesdale High School students abroad—to Australia, Japan and Thailand in recent years.

“The international dinner this year celebrates the 85th  anniversary of our club,” said Honesdale Rotary Vice President Ken Doolittle, who is also the event chair. “We’re proud to be able to serve the community as long as we have. And we hope to continue doing so.”

Restaurants which participate traditionally have included such eateries as Settlers, Hotel Wayne, Tick Tocks, Trackside, Cordaro’s, Woodloch and more.

“It’s truly a feast,” added Doolittle, “of tastes from Mexico, Italy, the U.S., Greece, Poland, you name it. Come and enjoy!”

The dinner is served buffet style, with one seating beginning at 5:30pm. Tickets --$15 adults, $10 children--are available at the downtown branches of The Dime Bank, Honesdale National Bank and Wayne Bank. Some will also be available at the door the night of the event. Corporate sponsorships are also available for $300 which includes four tickets and signage at the event.

Rotary International is a service club of more than 1.2 million members in 34,000 clubs worldwide. Committed to “service above self,” Rotarians engage in humanitarian, educational and vocational projects around the world.  Global projects include a polio eradication program, which is very close to accomplishing just that this year! Local projects include helping Friendship House, VIP and other groups, as well as the formation of a junior Rotary club at Honesdale High School called Interact.

Visitors are welcome to all Rotary meetings, which take place Tuesdays at 12 noon at Cordaro’s Restaurant in Honesdale.
